Welcome to this British Sign Language (BSL) and Tactile BSL user awareness learning resource.

This resource aims
- to raise your awareness and understanding of the rights of Deaf and deafblind BSL users.
- to support you to reflect on and improve your practice when working with BSL service users and BSL interpreters.
Learning outcomes
On completion of this two-part resource you will be able to:
- Describe BSL as a language and the two ways to communicate using BSL.
- Outline the key legislation and policy in Scotland supporting BSL.
- Recognise the barriers experienced by BSL users when accessing services.
- Identify good practice options when providing services for BSL users.
- Reflect on ways of improving current practice.
This resource is designed for Health & Social Care staff (paid or unpaid). It is also useful for anyone working in other public services.
With useful information and user experiences, the resource encourages you to reflect on and improve your practice in delivering services.
